While Eggers grew up the son of a Shakespeare professor and has a background in theater, he revealed he was unfamiliar with the Norse source material that spawned Hamlet: Or as one studio executive said, ‘I love this Viking version of The Lion King.’” (As you likely know, The Lion King is one of several films loosely inspired by Shakespeare’s plays.)
